Bali may be one island, but where your clients choose to stay can make a huge difference to their holiday.

One traveller’s perfect Bali might mean waking up close to the surf and action of Kuta, while another might prefer the laid-back pace of Sanur, the fashionable buzz of Seminyak or the lush landscapes surrounding Ubud. Add Canggu’s contemporary energy and the polished resort experience of Nusa Dua, and there’s an area to suit almost every style of trip.

For travel agents, understanding those differences can make it much easier to turn a Bali enquiry into the right holiday. Here are six popular areas to consider – along with a hotel to put on your radar in each.

Kuta: For beach, surf and plenty of energy

For clients who like to be at the heart of the action, Kuta remains one of Bali’s most recognisable resort areas. Its long beach, surf scene, shopping and entertainment make it particularly well suited to travellers who want plenty happening around them.

It’s also a good introduction to Bali for first-time visitors who want the convenience of an established resort area and easy access to everything from shopping to nightlife.

4* Mamaka Bali

Sitting where Kuta and Legian meet, Mamaka Bali brings a colourful, contemporary feel to the Kuta experience. The beachfront location means clients can go from hotel to sand in moments, while the rooftop infinity pool offers sweeping views across the coastline. There’s also Kuta Social Club on the rooftop, a beachside eatery and a partnership with a local surf academy, making the property particularly well suited to clients who want to embrace Kuta’s energetic lifestyle.

Sanur: For laid-back coastal living

For something altogether more relaxed, point clients towards Sanur.

Set on Bali’s south-eastern coast, this long-established resort area has a calmer, more easy-going feel. Restaurants, shops, markets and the beach are all within easy reach, but the atmosphere is noticeably different from Bali’s busier west-coast resorts.

That makes Sanur a versatile option for couples, families and clients who enjoy having things to see and do nearby without feeling as though they’re in the middle of the action.

4* Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur Bali

Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur Bali provides a comfortable resort base surrounded by tropical gardens. Its 329 guest rooms include suites and accommodation with balconies and private courtyards, while facilities include a freeform swimming pool, spa and fitness centre, restaurants and bars. The hotel is also within walking distance of Sanur’s restaurants, beaches, shops and markets.

There are some particularly useful accommodation options for agents to know about too, including direct pool-access rooms and a spacious two-bedroom family suite.

Canggu: For Bali’s contemporary side

Canggu has become synonymous with a more modern side of Bali. Surf culture meets cafés, restaurants and a lively social scene, attracting travellers who want their holiday to combine beach time with plenty of places to eat, drink and explore.

It has a younger, trend-led feel than some of Bali’s more traditional resort areas and is particularly appealing to couples and lifestyle-focused travellers.

5* Astera Resort Canggu

Astera Resort Canggu gives clients a more luxurious base from which to experience the area. Part of Ini Vie Hospitality, this five-star resort works particularly well for couples looking to combine Canggu’s energy with a more indulgent place to retreat to at the end of the day.

Seminyak: For style, shopping and sophisticated evenings

If clients want the beach alongside a more polished social scene, Seminyak should be high on the list.

Boutiques, restaurants, cafés, beach clubs and bars give this part of Bali its distinctive character. Clients can spend the day by the pool or on the beach before heading out for shopping, dinner and drinks, making it an excellent choice for travellers who like plenty of variety without venturing too far from their hotel.

5* Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort

Just steps from Seminyak Beach, Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort puts clients close to the area’s boutiques, nightlife and entertainment. Back at the resort, there’s a three-tiered swimming pool, spa, fitness centre, dining and a kids’ club, while rooms feature private balconies or terraces, with selected accommodation offering pool access.

It’s a particularly useful option because it allows clients to enjoy Seminyak’s lively surroundings while still having the facilities of a full resort to return to.

Ubud: For lush landscapes and a slower pace

Head inland and Bali feels very different.

Ubud swaps the coastal resort atmosphere for forested landscapes, rivers and greenery, making it an excellent contrast to the island’s beach destinations. The slower pace is part of the appeal, and it’s a great choice for clients who want their surroundings to play a big part in their stay.

4* Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali

Tucked amongst lush hills and forest beside the Wos River, Sthala feels a world away from Bali’s busier coastal areas. This boutique hotel combines locally inspired design and Balinese art with beautiful natural surroundings. Guests can relax beside the infinity pool, dine overlooking the forest or head to the rooftop bar for panoramic views.

Its setting is really the selling point here: this is a hotel that helps clients experience the greener, quieter side of Bali from the moment they arrive.

Nusa Dua: For a polished resort escape

For clients whose priority is switching off and enjoying the facilities of their hotel, Nusa Dua is an easy area to recommend.

Known for its high-end resorts, landscaped surroundings and beaches, it offers a more self-contained holiday experience than areas such as Kuta, Canggu or Seminyak. That makes it particularly appealing to families and travellers who want plenty at their fingertips without needing to venture far each day.

4* Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort

Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort offers spacious accommodation, private balconies or terraces and a wealth of facilities. There’s a large lagoon-style pool, children’s pool, lazy river, kids’ club and spa, plus a complimentary shuttle to the resort’s nearby beach club on Nusa Dua Beach.

With Bali Collection and local shopping also nearby, it offers a good balance between an easy resort stay and the option to head out when clients want a change of scenery.

One island, six very different experiences

That’s part of what makes Bali such a rewarding destination to sell. The question isn’t simply “Which hotel?” – it’s “Which Bali?”

For clients who want energy and surf, there’s Kuta. For a slower coastal escape, Sanur. Canggu delivers a contemporary, trend-led atmosphere, while Seminyak combines the beach with shopping and a sophisticated social scene. Head inland to Ubud for greenery and tranquillity, or choose Nusa Dua when a polished resort stay is the priority.

And for clients with a little more time, there doesn’t have to be just one answer. Pairing contrasting areas can allow them to experience two very different sides of the island in the same holiday – perhaps a few days surrounded by Ubud’s greenery followed by time on the coast.

With such variety in one destination, matching your clients to the right part of Bali can be the first step towards creating a holiday that feels made for them.
